Cristobal Balenciaga started the couture house in 1918. Today, the brand is now designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere. He is the creative director of the company currently. Balenciaga was the main designer of his brand up until 1968 and then he handed it over to Michel Goma in 1991 and then Goma wasn't going the direction that the company wanted and then it went to Josephus Thimister who then handed it to Ghesquiere.
